2011 Ford Edge Limited and Sport - new vision and improved technology
Ford is showcasing the 2011 Ford Edge, a crossover vehicle re-styled and equipped dramatically for model year 2011. Boasting new, re-engineered vision, the midsize crossover 2011 Edge renders more flowing and harmonious design than ever. Its new appeal makes an immediate and lasting statement about what the ultimate crossover should stands for: remarkable style blended in high-end technology features.
Its bold-smooth styling highlights new grille design, revised chin spoiler and expressive wrapping lines, which underlines both the front end and the new wheel lineup. Speaking of wheels, the new Edge is available with a choice of stunning 18- and 20-inch wheels with refined design. The Edge Sport variant features unique 22-inch polished aluminum wheels set with Tuxedo Black spoke accents, and other unique styling cues, including a Tuxedo Black grille, smoked headlamp and taillamp treatment, body-color rocker moldings, oval chrome exhaust tips, body-color door cladding and revised body-color lower front and rear fascias.
For the new model year, Ford engineers have worked hard to improve the driving dynamics of the Edge, creating an experience that is more pleasing and enjoyable. Thanks to this, the newly developed ride is packed with newly tuned suspension. Shocks, springs and stabilizer bars were adjusted to improve the handling. The shocks now feature a high-flow piston, which allows engineers to tune for both road loads and driving dynamics, without compromising ride for handling or vice versa.
New four-wheel disc brakes ensure potent deceleration. Key brake system upgrades include steel pistons, larger rear rotors, revised brake friction materials, revised brake booster gain and revised pedal ratios.
For powering the new Edge, the Blue Oval is offering a 3.5-liter V-6 in the Limited model and a 3.7-liter V-6 in the Edge Sport. In addition to these advanced power units, Ford is also offering the all-new 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4, which is making its North American premiere in the Edge.
The 3.5-liter V-6 engine is capable to deliver 285 horsepower and 253 ft.-lb. of torque while the 3.7-liter V-6 produces 305 horsepower and 280 ft.-lb. of torque. Fitted with the new 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 power-plant, the 2011 Edge is boasting 30 percent better fuel economy than the Edge presented in 2006. All three engines are linked to a six-speed automatic transmission. The SelectShift Automatic transmission is standard on the 2011 Edge Limited series, with paddle activation of the SelectShift standard on the 2011 Edge Sport.
The 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4 is specially calibrated to take advantage of the EcoBoost engine. The gearbox features a new torque converter for improved driving feel, silky smooth shifts and great fuel economy. Engineers also installed revised gear ratios for a balanced driving feel in all situations. The new ratios complement the revised torque converter.
