The Buick New Regal 2.0 Turbo, GM's first product built in China that will be available with a turbocharged engine, is making its world premiere at Auto Shanghai 2009.  The new powertrain gives New Regal buyers a choice of three engines.

"Rolling out models with turbocharged engines is part of our commitment to improving the choices for our customers in China," said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of the GM China Group.  "Our turbo powertrain offers higher power and fuel efficiency with lower emissions.  It represents another step forward for GM as we improve the overall efficiency of our domestic product lineup."

The cutting-edge New Regal intermediate sedan was introduced in China in December 2008.  It is based on a new global vehicle architecture developed by General Motors in Europe in cooperation with GM design and engineering teams worldwide, including the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) in Shanghai.  In addition to high-efficiency powertrains, it also offers a sophisticated design, advanced safety and outstanding craftsmanship.

High-Efficiency Powertrains

The new-generation 2.0-liter Turbo Direct Injection engine has two overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, and common-rail, multiple fuel direct injection, together with a variable geometry turbocharger for a rapid throttle response at low rpm.  It generates maximum power of 162 kW/220 hp at 5,300 rpm and peak torque of 350 Nm at 2,000-4,000 rpm.  It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds, which will make it the most powerful turbocharged engine on the market.  The engine has excellent fuel economy and comes with a maintenance-free diesel particulate filter as standard equipment.  It meets the advanced Euro V emission standard.

In addition, Shanghai GM offers 2.0-liter and 2.4-liter ECOTEC engines.  The ECOTEC has been named one of the top 10 engines in the world.  The 2.0-liter powerplant has maximum power of 108 kW/6,200 rpm and maximum torque of 190 Nm/4,600 rpm.  It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.4 seconds and has a maximum speed of 197 kph.  Under ordinary driving conditions, it achieves outstanding fuel economy of 8.8 liters/100 km.

The 2.4-liter powerplant, the same engine featured in the Buick LaCrosse, has won recognition for its excellent power and fuel economy.  It generates maximum power of 125 kW/6,400 rpm and maximum torque of 225 Nm/4,800 rpm, with 90 percent of its peak torque produced at 2,000 rpm.  It goes from 0 to 100 km/h in under 10 seconds.

The engines are mated to an S6 six-speed automatic transmission, resulting in excellent power and outstanding fuel economy.

The New Regal has adopted an optimized MacPherson and independent four-link type suspension system and the advanced digital CANBUS system.  This provides a high degree of stiffness to the front and rear sub-frames, all of which ensures precision handling.  Its high-performance chassis delivers maximum stability and a smooth driving experience.

Sophisticated Design

The exterior design of the New Regal reflects European styling, with sculptured surfaces and precision craftsmanship.  It is aerodynamic, offering best-in-class drag coefficient of 0.27.

Its 17-inch and 18-inch rims and low rolling-resistance tires, which come standard, add a sporty touch.  The interior design is both dynamic and luxurious.  Supple soft-touch materials are used throughout the interior along with harmonious materials, textures and colors.

Advanced Safety

For advanced safety, the New Regal offers the standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, Cornering Brake Control (CBC) system, Hydraulic Brake Fade Assist (HBFA) system and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).  The New Regal has 35 percent more laser jointing points on its roof than its competitors, ensuring maximum roof strength.  Its body structure compares in strength to luxury vehicles from Europe.  Seat belts come with pre-tensioners and force limiters.  Six smart air bags offer protection to the driver and passengers.  The New Regal also takes into consideration pedestrian safety.  It meets all five-star collision standard requirements both in Europe and North America.

Plentiful Interior Amenities

Buick's exclusive QuietTuning technology is used in the New Regal to ensure a pleasant driving experience.  Seats were designed in accordance with the physical characteristics of Chinese people.  With the highly efficient independent air-conditioning system, the driver can adjust the air flow, temperature and humidity to maintain maximum comfort.  The built-in 40-gigabyte hard drive provides support for a powerful voice navigation system, E-touch multimedia control system, Electric Parking Brake (EPB) system, keyless smart entry and one-button starting.  It also features 384-watt speakers with a 5.1-track harman/kardon acoustic setup.
