Hear the new McLaren 675LT Roar! [VIDEO]
McLaren 675LT is the first McLaren in almost two decades that wears the LT designation. The latter stands for "Longtail" and this means that it promises to keep the spirit of its iconic predecessor. The car is aerodynamically optimized, and in fact the active ‘Longtail' Airbrake contributes to a 40 percent increase in overall downforce in comparison to the 650S. Both cars will be sitting alongside in the McLaren Super Series.
As the name suggest, the total power output of the model is of 675 hp, while the torque is 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). These two "numbers" are produced by a thoroughly revised 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine, which includes new lightweight components and turbos.
Optimized acceleration and traction from a standing start in first gear is ensured by the controlled torque delivery of 600 Nm (443 lb-ft). Then it rises to the full 700 Nm available from 5,500-6,500 rpm through each of the other gears.
Another specific feature in the new McLaren is the redesigned crossover exhaust system, which is formed from lightweight titanium. As you can see from the video below, there are two circular titanium exhaust pipes that exit centrally through exposed bodywork below the rear ‘Longtail' Airbrake. This new system has a crucial role, because it optimizes performance and reduces weight.
The 675LT will be available as a coupe only. More details are yet to come, including the performance figures, and this is expected to happen during car's world debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 3rd of March.
