Volkswagen expects to sell more cars in Brazil this year than in its German home market, Boersen-Zeitung reported, citing the head of Volkswagen Brazil Thomas Schmall.

The German carmaker last year sold 581,000 cars in Brazil, 32 percent more than a year earlier. The figure was behind China, the company's biggest market, and Germany.

'After China, South America is our biggest growth market, and we are very well positioned there because we have been producing in Brazil for a long time and developed our own cars for the South American market,' the newspaper cited management board member Ulrich Hackenberg as saying.
