BMW Unveils 2016 X1 Sports Activity Vehicle [Full Details & Video]
2016 BMW X1 Sports Activity Vehicle has been finally officially revealed not long after the unofficial pictures leaked. It looks amazing and with its commanding presence, robust proportions and dynamic lines. The car incorporates roomier interior and its engine offers greater efficiency.
Being a second generation, the BMW X1 xDrive28i will exclusively launched in the US with a 2.0-liter TwinTurbo 4-cylinder engine that pumps out 228 horsepower (168 kW). This is actually big news because it makes the BMW X1 the most powerful entry model in the segment. The unit will be connected to an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

In terms of efficiency, the car gets an improved version of the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. On the other hand, the newly developed chassis help in the greater sporting ability and ride comfort of the 2016 X1.
Exterior
The robustness and dynamic presence of the car has been achieved through various changes. First, the height has been increased and 1.7 inches were added. At the front we see the large BMW kidney grille, lower air intake and the characteristic "six-eyed" looked formed by the twin round headlights and fog lamps.
Great news is that the LED Daytime Running Lights are now standard, while the LED headlights are available with the Premium Package. At the rear, the center of the new 2016 BMW X1's rear apron rises up significantly, adding sporting accents.
The sports vehicle will be now running on standard 18-inch run-flat all-season tires, while the 19-inch run-flat performance tires come as an option. There are two exterior paint schemes to chose from: non-metallic and nine metallic exterior paint finishes.
Interior
The interior features increased cargo area and greater interior room. There is more head- and legroom for the occupants than before. As a standard it gets power front seats that provide one inch in the front and 2.5 inches in the rear. Leg room in the rear has 1.5 up to 2.6 inches more.
Extensive standard and optional equipment highlight the character of the new X1. The automatic tailgate operation is now a no cost option, while the Comfort Access is offered as part of the Premium Package and includes a hands-free tailgate opening and closing function.
The flat surfaces of the instrument panel and center console controls surely make good impression. The instrument cluster now comprises of two circular instruments and is surrounded by a small binnacle.
Moreover, the interior now features iDrive operating system's Control Display which is actually 6.5-inch (standard) or 8.8-inch (optional) freestanding monitor.
Other cool features inside are the SensaTec seat surface which is available in both Black and Canberra Beige and a Black high-gloss interior trim with Pearl chrome accent strips. The perforated Dakota leather trim can be purchased in Black, Canberra Beige, Mocha, and Oyster colors. The available interior trims are the following: Brushed Aluminum and fine-wood matt Oak Grain and Fineline Stream.
Powertrain
As mentioned already under the hood of the new BMW X1 is the 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo unit, which has a twin-tailpipe design. The xDrive28i includes BMW's new modular BMW EfficientDynamics engine, a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder unit with a TwinScroll turbocharger, High Precision Injection, VALVETRONIC fully variable valve lift, and Double-VANOS variable camshaft timing.
In terms of numbers, this car is capable of producing 228 hp (168 kW) at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) between 1,250 rpm and 4,500 rpm. The 0-60 mph is therefore covered within 6.3 seconds. CO2 emissions stand at 152– 49 grams per kilometer, while the US EPA mileage will be available closer to launch.
What is more, the car will be fitted with xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. It will help the X1 achieve outstanding traction, stability and cornering dynamics regardless weather or road conditions.
M Sport package
Estoril Blue metallic is of course the exterior color of the X1 when purchased with the M Sport Package. The pack will also add eight-speed Sport Automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. M Steering Wheel and M Sport suspension and Sport Seats are also a prerequisite.
A wide range of innovative equipment like full-LED adaptive headlights, BMW Head-Up Display and Driver Assistance Plus, and etc., are also featured in the equipment of the car. The 2016 BMW X1 xDrive28i will available in US showrooms in this fall with pricing announced near launch.
