Volvo to invade the small car segment: Concept 40.1 and 40.2 have been just revealed!
Volvo Concept 40.1 and Volvo Concept 40.2 have just been revealed. This is how the Swedish brand is making a big step forward by introducing its intention to invade the small car segment. Volvo's global small car strategy is to make vehicle just like the here presented concepts: with bold exterior and interior design, with industry-leading connectivity, electrification and autonomous driving.
Furthermore, the two concepts are the first models which have been built around the new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). In addition, the small car strategy will be the essential element in company's ongoing global operational and financial transformation as well as ambitious revitalization plan. The goal is to reposition the brand and to make it possible to compete with other global premium manufacturers. This is about to happen within the next four years.
What has been also revealed is that the new small car range will include a pure battery electric vehicle and a Twin Engine plug-in hybrid powertrain options. This will contribute to Volvo's commitment to sell a total of up to 1 million electrified cars by 2025 wordlwide.
Most probably, the cars will be driven with Volvo's new T5 Twin Engine. It is based on the company's 3-cylinder petrol engine fitted with 7-speed dual clutch transmission coupled to an electric motor. The Twin Engine All-Wheel Drive approach will be substitutes with the more accessible front wheel-based system for the smaller cars.
The new vehicle will be also equipped with a full range of innovative connectivity services. This will include world's most advanced standard package of safety features. The Swedish company promises a ground breaking Scandinavian interior design, too.
