VW Golf R and Scirocco R hits the market
VW always used six-cylinder engines for their R class vehicles, until now. Golf and Scirocco R come with 2-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines.
The overall power of the TSI engine is 270ps and 350N/m of torque. With this amount of power and the four-wheel drive, Golf VI R is capable of doing 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds and the top speed is 250km/h (electronically limited). Besides that the car is even faster with the automatic dual-clutch DSG gearbox – 0 to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds. On the top of this extraordinary performance, VW managed to low the fuel consumption to 8.5 litres for 100km, which is 2.2 litres or 21 percent less than its predecessor. Golf VI R is now available at the dealership in Germany and the price starts from €36,400.
There aren't much differences between Golf VI R and Scirocco R. The main advantage of Scirocco is the lower fuel consumption – only 8.0 litres for a hundred kilometers (with DSG gearbox). The emissions are also lower – only 187 g/km of CO2. The other main advantage is the price - only €33,475, which is the best value for money on the market. Other difference is that the Scirocco R is front wheel drive, which can't be classified like an advantage or disadvantage.
The R Line package can be ordered even for Golf VI or Scirocco with less power engines and includes: 17-inch "Mallory" alloy wheels, roof edge spoilers, R-designed bumpers, high-gloss radiator grill and a likewise black diffuser in the rear section. In the interior, sill panel strips show the R Line family resemblance. Sport seats in new design "Kyalami" with R Line logo in the headrests, a sport steering wheel, pedal covers and footrest in stainless steel.
